About Me
I am Georgina Mortreux, a contemporary artist based in Slovakia, Europe.
I love colors and this is what you can see at first sight on all of my paintings. I do not paint butterflies to make them look delicate. I paint them to make them look alive.
Why I paint butterflies? For me, they are the most beautiful evidence of transformation in nature. And I believe that the same transformation happens in the life of each of us. This is what I want to explore again and again. They are not only about the visual, their beauty, but also about the depth they symbolize. And that is self-trust, courage, fragility and resiliance.
Through expressive colors and distinctive compositions, I layer paint, combine it with ink, use brush strokes for the fine lines and pull a wing into focus. What you see on the surface is the history of the painting, and it is never entirely under control.
That is what makes the work contemporary for me. It is not polished into stillness. It keeps the marks of how it was made.
Every piece is an original, made by hand in my studio. No prints and no repeats. Once a canvas is sold, that butterfly is gone for good.
The artworks are created to bring color, character, and individuality into your home.
My work is created for those who appreciate unique contemporary art and want to build a meaningful connection with the pieces they live with.
I share my original paintings with art lovers and collectors worldwide, with the hope that each artwork finds a home where it can inspire, move, and become part of someone’s personal story.
